Winter is here!

Just a reminder...

Since there is now snow on the playground, please have your child bring snow pants, boots, coat, hat, and mittens/gloves to school each day as long as there is snow on the ground.  They will need these items in order to play on the playground otherwise, your child will be restricted to play on the pavement area.  It is very HELPFUL to have their name or initials written inside all items. You may want to pack an extra pair of socks and mittens in your child's backpack.

Thank you!

RAZ Kids

We have an exciting new reading app called Raz Kids.  Your child can access the app at home with their own username and password.  An informational paper went home in your child's folder last Friday.

Your child now has access to just right books at his/her convenience.  I have encouraged your child to listen to the book first and then read it.  The levels on Raz Kids are slightly harder than the levels they read at school.  Hence, there is a range of levels to choose from.

Please note: They can log any books they read on Raz kids into their R.A.H.

Both iReady and Raz Kids can be used as homework throughout the week.  I am able to monitor their progress at home as well as school.

Please take the time to login to your child's Raz Kid account on your PC or download the app for them at home.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

News - 12-1-17

Please Mark Your Calendars.
  • Early Release on Wednesday, December 13th at 12:50.
  • 2nd Annual Family Game Day on Thursday, December 21st 12:45 - 1:45.  This accidentally happened last year instead of a holiday party and was a big hit. Now its our new Koala tradition! :-) All families are welcome to attend and bring a favorite game to share.
HOMEWORK: In case you missed the note home...
The Koalas will be moving onto ”All About” writing and we need your help. Please help your child brainstorm topics they know a lot about.  Just like for small moments writing, brainstorming at home was very helpful to support their writing during Writer’s Workshop.  Please send the list as soon as you can. Topics can include: dogs, cats, soccer, skiing, Florida, cooking, first grade, karate, etc.  The possibilities are endless!!!

Here's just a glimpse on what we've been working on:
  • Played the game, "Fruit Salad" during Morning Meeting.
  • Focused on silent e during phonics instruction
  • Made the "Doubles Dude" to reinforce their double facts to 20
  • Played the math game, "Place Value Roll"
  • Finished the chapter book, "My Father's Dragon" and begin, "Elmer and the Dragon"
  • Read nonfiction books with their 5th grade buddies
Here are some questions to promote school talk...

1) How do you play, Fruit Salad?
2) Tell me about the Japanese game show you watched.
3) Show me the brain break, "Superman."
5) Tell me about this week's mystery with Mystery Doug.
6) What was this week's greeting?

Pictures next week...I promise! :-)

The holidays are just around the corner ...

Our class, along with our 5th grade buddies, will be supporting a family in need. Once I have all the information I will pass it along to you. Participation in this cause is completely voluntary but strongly encouraged instead of any "teacher" gifts. The Stratham Teacher Association is also collecting donations to a local food bank. Any contribution would be appreciated. Once I have all the information I will pass it along to you. Both of these causes our important to Mrs. Horan and I. Thank you!
